In an era where sustainability is a business imperative, Ticketebo is leading the way in showing how small, intentional digital shifts can deliver large-scale environmental impact. Through its Trees for Change program, in partnership with veritree, Ticketebo is reshaping what it means to run eco-conscious events.

The Goal: Redefining Digital Delivery for Environmental Good

Ticketebo, an innovative event ticketing platform operating in Australia and the UK, known for delivering ticketing solutions for events of all sizes, launched its Trees for Change program in 2021 with two clear objectives:

  1. Eliminate wasteful paper ticketing by encouraging SMS ticket delivery.

  2. Use digital engagement to drive ecosystem restoration by planting verified trees for every opt-in.

By aligning everyday ticketing transactions with tangible environmental outcomes, Ticketebo set out to prove that ticket delivery could do more than just simplify logistics—it could regenerate the planet.

As Oliver Hinton, Managing Director of Ticketebo, explains:

“At Ticketebo, we see our Trees for Change partnership with veritree as far more than a tree-planting initiative, it’s an investment in the long-term resilience of the planet. By funding the restoration of critical ecosystems such as mangrove forests, we’re helping to rebuild natural defences against climate change, protect biodiversity, and support sustainable livelihoods in vulnerable communities.”

Methodology: Embedding Restoration into the Ticketing Journey

The Trees for Change program was designed to integrate seamlessly into the existing ticket purchasing flow. Patrons are presented with the option to have their tickets delivered via SMS—a faster, greener choice that triggers the planting of a verified tree, powered by veritree.

But the innovation doesn’t stop at the patron level. Ticketebo also encourages event organisers to match the trees planted by their attendees. And when they do, Ticketebo matches that pledge again—turning a single paperless transaction into three trees planted.

Key mechanisms:

  • The cost of planting trees is covered by the optional SMS ticket delivery fee, making the Trees for Change program cost-neutral for Ticketebo—enabling them to scale environmental impact without requiring additional company resources.

  • Tree verification and transparency provided through unique tree certificates linked to each ticket offered by Ticketebo

  • Customised dashboards and digital proof of impact for Ticketebo through veritree’s platform

Implementation: Adoption Through Simplicity and Transparency

The Trees for Change program launched in December 2021 and saw immediate traction thanks to its simplicity and clarity of purpose. By removing friction and clearly communicating the impact of each SMS ticket sent, Ticketebo quickly shifted user behavior.

In addition to educating patrons on the environmental impact, Ticketebo equips event organisers with marketing materials and post-event reports to share their sustainability efforts with their own audiences.

This approach has built trust across the ecosystem—and established a proof point for how digital infrastructure can be leveraged to scale environmental regeneration.

Results: Measurable Impact at Scale

The Ticketebo x veritree partnership has delivered both measurable environmental impact and meaningful shifts in customer engagement.

Key Metrics

  • Ticketebo saw a 57% increase in SMS adoption with 22% of patrons now opting for SMS delivery (up from 14% before trees were offered).

  • In 2023 alone, 185,171 paper tickets were avoided through SMS delivery.

  • 257,000+ verified trees planted to date through the program.

  • 10% of event organisers currently participate in the matching program.

These results highlight a powerful trend: when given the opportunity to make an impact—without friction—people respond. And when businesses lead by example, they create ripple effects that extend far beyond their direct actions.

What’s Next: Building on a Strong Foundation

Ticketebo’s commitment to environmental leadership is only accelerating. As a certified carbon-neutral company, the organisation has set an ambitious goal to become net zero by 2028, and continues to find new ways to embed sustainability into every product and service.

“We hope that the simplicity of our program, rewarding a positive customer action with the planting of a verified tree will inspire other businesses to adopt similarly proactive, climate-positive practices. Together, we can build a more sustainable future that’s rooted in action, not just intention.” — Oliver Hinton, Managing Director, Ticketebo

The veritree partnership has become a cornerstone of that commitment, connecting digital decisions to real-world regeneration, and demonstrating what’s possible when business, technology, and restoration come together.
