Brazil Terrestrial Restoration
for Water Resilience

Water Forest for Water

Previously cleared for agriculture and impacted by the installation of an aerospace exploration centre, this large-scale restoration initiative focuses on reviving the Pepital River basin in the municipality of Alcântara, Maranhão. Working alongside Quilombola communities, the project will restore degraded Amazon–Cerrado transition zones and reconnect mangrove and forest ecosystems, safeguarding local aquifers that supply surrounding rural communities. This restoration initiative will enhance biodiversity, food security, and long-term water resilience for over 50 communities, totaling approximately 20,000 people, while strengthening the health of Amazonian ecosystems.
